New Mom Gift Basket

On Friday, I got to go visit my friend and her new baby. I was taught to always bring food, but I wanted to bring her something just for her too. I quickly poked around on Pinterest and found a list at Happy Home Fairy that seemed like it had some good suggestions. I jotted down some suggestions and we hit Target to pick up some supplies.

Pinterest Challenge Cop-Out

Oops, I totally forgot it was Pinterest challenge week…  So instead of doing a completely new project, I thought I’d just share some recent Pinterest inspired projects I completed around the house.  {Click on each photo to read the details of each project!}

As you probably have figured out by now, it’s Winter Pinterest Challenge time! Hosted by Sherry, Katie, Michelle, and Megan. And it’s totally not hosted or sponsored by Pinterest (although don’t you think it’s time they get in on this action?!)

Anywhoo. I had some fun with this challenge & FINALLY got a project (or two) checked off my to do list.

DIY Lampshade Update: Pinterest Challenge

Lamp Shade Update - DIY Painted Navy Stripe

Why yes, I know I’m a day early, but I did two projects for the Winter Pinterest Challenge. I’ll be back tomorrow to share the more involved project. This project only took about 20 minutes total – including taping and two coats of paint. I had lots of grand ideas for what to do to update the lampshade but when I though hard about it, I realized I didn’t want an overly involved pattern. I was also concerned that if I did one of the ribbon ideas, it would look good in pictures, but in real life it might look like “Oh, you glued some ribbon to your lampshade…” So that’s how the idea of the navy stripe was born.

There’s no tutorial, because it was super simple! I taped off a stripe using some blue painters tape and then taped of another a few inches above the first. Then I simply painted the stripe using some Martha Stewart “Deep Sea” Craft Paint in a satin finish. I thought one coat would do the trick, until I turned on the light, at which point it was clear that I did not get good coverage everywhere. It was an easy fix though – I just painted another coat over the first with the light turned on, to make sure that I got proper coverage the second time around!

So what do you think? I think it’s already brightened up that spot! I’m still considering painting, or otherwise updating the lamp itself. Maybe some white paint? Or some sisal rope? What project are you sharing tomorrow?

Lamp Update Ideas

Well I have to say, I seem to have pretty good timing with my desire to continue updating the living room.  As you may have heard, the Pinterest Challenge is back!  Also, this time it is co-hosted by one of my favorite blogs, Decor and the Dog!

Since the consensus from your comments was that I should do something with the boring beige lampshade, I plan on taking it on as my Pinterest challenge.  Here’s the culprit – Mr. “Boring Lamp.”

Design Dilemma - Boring Lamp

Here are some of the ideas I’ve been pinning / considering for taking my lamp from boring to fun.  (Each picture should take you to the pin & the source beyond that).

Now I just need to decide on a process & pick a color!  Are you planning on tackling a project for the Pinterest challenge?

It’s that time again!

That’s right!  Time for the Pinterest Challenge.  Sherry (from Young House Love) and Katie (from BowerPower) are teaming up with Carmel (from Our Fifth House) and Sarah (from Ugly Duckling House) to host another get-off-your-butt-and-tackle-a-project-already Pinterest challenge!  Whoo!

It has to be done by Tuesday, so I’ve got a week to figure out what project to tackle.  Get all the supplies and get it done!  Of course, indecision has struck…

Should I get to making Penny a crate cover (which is already goal for October?)

Should I redo the canvas I painted in a chevron/herringbone pattern?  I have some ideas for big changes to make.

I’m feeling inspired by these.

But also by these:

Or should I go with something that wasn’t on the October to do list at all?  Like a Christmas craft?

Oh the indecisiveness!  I better decide soon, or I won’t have anything to share come Tuesday.  Are you planning on checking something off your pinspiration list?
