Moodboard: Vintage Kilim Living Room

I thought this time I’d come up with a moodboard that probably wouldn’t fit perfectly in our current house. It’s fun to play with colors you wouldn’t normally use, isn’t it? I think this would be a great for a formal sitting room!

Everything started with this Madeline Weinrib Westley Thunder Cotton Rug from Chairish. (See their awesome vintage furniture here).

Clockwise from top left; multicolored Kilim fabric for pillows, Ikat Kilim fabric in orange for curtains, a Kilim pouf in hot pink to serve as extra seating or a place to prop your feet, an iron floor lamp, that gorgeous rug, solid orchid Kilim fabric for more pillows, MCM loveseat in white faux leather, round reclaimed wood coffee table.

And now I’m trying to figure out how to make this pouf work down in the basement when we’re ready to decorate!

What colors do you sometimes play with in theory but would probably NEVER add to your house?

Design Collaboration: Patio in Orange and Teal

Today I’m back with a fun mood board. Janie from FindingFabulous picked a this bright inspiration picture for us to work with.

I had fun dreaming up a lively outdoor space! Our backyard/patio needs a ton of work before we’ll be ready to decorate out there. Andy’s busy ripping out some overgrown shrubs that took up about half of our small yard when we moved in. Once we get the over-sized shed removed & a fence installed, we’ll be ready to create a backyard oasis (in 2015 or so!). Until then, a girl can dream, right?

February Design Collaboration: Aqua and Orange Master Bedroom

This month we were inspired by this gorgeous scarf!
Scarf - Aqua, ORange, Grey

Since we have some of these colors in our master,  I thought it would be fun to pull together a master bedroom that combines white, aqua and orange.  I would use lots of white to ensure that it’s a restful space, with sand colored walls bringing in a beach vibe.

Hi! For this month’s challenge I put together a room with items you can find from ONE STORE! Designing and finishing a space doesn’t have to be time consuming or expensive. Hop on over to Carissamiss.com to read more!  http://www.carissamiss.com

Janie

For my first challenge I created a modern yet coastal inspired living room. The colors I used (from the inspiration photo) are turquoise, coral and gray. And the style is partly mid century modern with fun silver accessories and a natural woven rug. The overall style is coastal chic! http://www.findingfabulousblog.com

This color combo gave me an excuse to design a room around a sofa that I’ve been lusting after for a long time, and since it would be a totally self-indulgent buy (can’t see the Mr going for it, and it definitely isn’t kid-friendly), I decided, not for the first time, to go the whole hog and make myself a dream office. http://www.livingprettyblog.com

Design Collaboration: Ocean Inspired

It’s time for our monthly Design Collaboration.  This month we were all inspired by this gorgeous Ocean pic.

Color Curl

Since I’ve been updating our powder room (and thinking about what to do with the upstairs bathrooms which both have blue in the lovely linoleum I’m planning on working with for now) I immediately started thinking about doing an ocean inspired bath.

i had so much fun with this month’s collaboration because it went perfectly with the idea i had in my head for a space in my house. i’ve been thinking about the hall bathroom and how to make the most of the very small space. it’s going to be the shared bathroom between the two kids so i wanted to reflect both genders as well as have a more grown up feel. when lizzie picked this inspiration palette i knew it was meant to be! come visit me to see the sources!

I immediately fell in love with this month’s color inspiration. The first word that popped into my head was Nautical. I wanted to use it in a dining room application so I had to give it some sophistication. Navy is one of my favorite hues and I love the contrast of the coral and gold against it. I’m calling this my “rustic glam” dining room. I got a bit overwhelmed with the possibilities because I love this color combo so much, but in the end I kept it pretty simple but cozy. I stuck with white walls (looking out for renters!) but I think a warm greige would be really pretty too. Visit me at www.livingprettyblog.com for more details and sources.

Mood Board: Nautical Kitchen

A couple of weeks ago, when I stopped in Paper Source to visit my favorite foxes, I spotted this nautical guy.

And I thought that he could be a fun jumping off point for a nautical kitchen.  While I used a few ocean inspired items, I tried to stick more to the colors than just the theme to hopefully avoid the feeling that you’re in a super themed room.

This imaginary kitchen has a big window seat which will allow for lots of scatter cushions.  I also couldn’t decide between the red and blue rug or the red and blue stools, so I included it all.

Lastly, I had to include the little white crab. I think he could make a cute napkin weight, or just tuck him on an open shelf for a whimsical touch.
