Before we even unpacked the Karlstad, we knew we wanted to change our coffee table turned ottoman to match with the new couch and feel of the living room. I’ve been SUPER indecisive. I really want something mid-century since we have to vintage buffet and midcentury chairs in the dining room, and the stereo cabinet turned wine bar in the living room, but then I saw this gorgeous, more industrial round coffee table in a Pottery Barn catalog.
Here are some of the ones I’ve considered.
1. Ikea Lillbron, 2. Pottery Barn Bartlett, 3. World Market Rustic Skylar 4. Target MCM, 5. World Market Hairpin, 6. Ikea Regissor 7. World Market Aiden, 8. One Kings Lane Nathaniel, 9. Ikea Square Hemnes
After a lot of back and forth and pinning and repinning all of my favorites, we’re taking a completely different path. Most of these coffee tables were more than what I wanted to pay for a piece of furniture that I’d be putting my feet on every day. After a little bit of googling, we came up with a different plan: a DIY coffee table with hairpin legs.
I used Retro Renovation’s 9 places to buy hairpin legs to find affordable legs (I went with Hairpinlegs.com – review coming as soon as we receive them) and plan on using this, this, and this table as inspiration. Our legs should arrive on Monday & hopefully we find some time during the week to go buy wood to make the top. Guess we know what we’re doing next weekend!
Okay, okay, I know it’s only October, but I couldn’t resist sharing my favorite Christmas finds. All of my go-to stores have Christmas decor on their websites and I just can’t help myself. (At least I’m not listening to Christmas music, yet!)
from Left to Right, Top to Bottom:
3. Bird Side Plates
4. Reindeer Dish Towel
5. Vintage Dish Towels
6. Gold Stripe Table Cloth
7. Gold Table Runner
I’ve been remarkably restrained in purchasing Christmas decor, especially given how cute everything is this year! However, I did sneak these cute little birdies into my basket when we were at Ikea.
Are you ready for Christmas yet?
A little off-topic today – hope you don’t mind too much!
I’ve never been big on painting my nails with anything other than clear polish (and not even that often). Not because I don’t like it, but because I’m pretty bad at actually painting my nails and even worse at not ruining the polish within seconds of putting down the bottle of nail polish!
However, behold the manicure below. My nails were a) NOT done professionally and b) were done more than 12 hours before. So, what magical thing did I do to stop from smudging my polish in seconds?
I got a consultation from my nail polish-hoarding friend Ashley, who strongly suggested a quick-dry top coat and sticking my hands in the freezer for a few minutes. I had already realized that using high quality nail polish makes painting your nails much easier, and I love Essie’s color choices (I used Chinchilly this time). I grabbed some Essie top/base coat in one and since Target was out of their quick dry top coat & I’m too scared to try to drying drops, I grabbed some Sally Hansen insta-dri. I followed the instructions on the box, and Ashley’s of sticking my hands in the freezer and had no smudging! Thanks Ashley!
Last week, while in California, I managed to fit in a pit stop to the Dorell Fabric Outlet in Orange County. I only bought a little bit of fabric (I’ll show you soon – it’s for future pillow covers in the living room), but I fell in love with some fabric that I just have to show you! I didn’t buy any of it, as I could not figure out a room in the house to use it in, but it was just too darling not to take some pictures of.
Of course, I couldn’t just take a picture of this fabric. I had to pull together some coordinating fabrics that I could decorate a room around. There was so much to choose from, but here were a few of my favorites.
The main fabric is “Duralee – Jungle Boogie in Bubblegum”. Isn’t that just the perfect name?
And one last look at the gorgeous fabric that I left behind…
I picked up the 8″x8″ version of this Rhino print last year from Minted. Isn’t it gorgeous? I thought it would look great along with the rest of the Africa art I’ve previously used in our gallery walls (like in the dining room and bedroom of our old apartment). Of course, the print has been lying around the house, just waiting to be framed for, oh about 9 or 10 months now…
I’m hoping that by showing it off, I’ll find the time (and the print!) and finally frame it & get it, and the many other prints still in boxes or lined up in our hallway, up on the walls!

I know we normally think of nutcrackers as Christmas decor, but just look at these guys! I must have at least one of them. Maybe both…
I first discovered the adorable nutcrackers at World Market a few Christmasses ago. You may remember these two favorites from my Christmas decor. I lovingly refer to them as my Christmas Gnomes. (And I may be adding to my collection this year. Shh… Don’t tell Andy, yet!)
I also own the Thanksgiving Pilgrim Turkey Nutcracker (that’s a mouthful) that World Market had about two years ago. He looks very dapper as part of my Fall / Thanksgiving decor, but I think he could do with a friend (or two).
Oh, and don’t worry! We haven’t actually started decorating for Thanksgiving, or even Fall!
Clockwise: 1. Sam & Libby Flats, 2. Lightweight Spring Scarf, 3. Ceylon Tea Tea Towel, 4. Tan Leather Purse.
I got these blush pink leather flats as an impulse buy from Target and ladies, it feels like I’m wearing slippers! I may or may not have ordered a pair of tan and a pair of black ones online…
I did not buy the scarf. I should show you how many I already own some day, but I LOVE the look of this one, and it’s inspiring me to break out some of my lighter weight scarves now that the weather is warming up.
I grabbed the cute elephant tea towel from World Market. My plan is to turn it into a cushion cover to match with the elephant rice bag one we already have.
Lastly is my new purse. The leather is super smooth and I love everything about it. I’ve been looking for a replacement ever since the zipper started acting up on my 5+ year old grey leather purse, and I’m so glad I waited and shopped around until I found just what I wanted!
Have you made any recent purchases? I think the next step around here is to clean out the closets and figure out what I need to add to my clothing shopping lists for Spring/Summer!
